Last night’s star-studded BET Awards show was full of surprises that included a Twitter-shattering teaser for Beyoncé‘s upcoming “Black Is King” visual album premiering exclusively on Disney+ on July 31.
The soon-to-be cultural obsession is based on music from last year’s Bey-curated soundtrack “The Lion King: The Gift” with cameos by the album’s featured artists as well as special guest appearances.
Oh yes, it’s lit and honors the voyages of Black families throughout time through the story of a young king’s journey through betrayal, love and self-identity. Guided by his ancestors, father and childhood love, he earns the virtues needed to reclaim his “home and throne.”
“The visual album from Beyoncé reimagines the lessons of The Lion King for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns,” said reps from Disney and from Beyoncé’s company, Parkwood Entertainment.
