Manchester City are so confident of completing a £43million deal for Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had identified the Portuguese midfielder as a replacement for Ander Herrera, who looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old has attracted interest from Europe’s elite this season, scoring 28 goals and providing 17 assists for Sporting. United had hoped the lure of first team football would prove pivotal in convincing Fernandes to move to Old Trafford but Goal report that City are now in ‘advanced’ talks for the midfielder.

His arrival could pave the way for Ilkay Gundogan to leave the club, while one of Eliaquim Mangala or Douglas Luiz could move the other way in exchange.
Bernardo Silva, an international team-mate of Fernandes, talked up the midfielder’s ability last week when quizzed about the speculation.
‘Bruno is a great player,’ Silva said. ‘He has had a fantastic season with many goals, many assists that are not normal for a player of his position, he has the best numbers and we’ll see what happens at the end of the season. He is a player who can play in other championships’.
City are interested in Benfica playmaker Joao Felix, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side drew at Huddersfield on Sunday to confirm Europa League football next term.
The Red Devils could face a difficult summer convincing targets to join the club without the lure of Champions League football.
